Thanks, Whitey
Tonight, we celebrate and say thanks to one of our great clubmen, Kevin White.
White's NBL career has spanned some 12 seasons, and it's fitting that his last in uniform was in black, red, and white.
Kevin returned to the Hawks earlier in the year as an injury replacement for Dan Grida, and his leadership was felt instantly across the young and developing Hawks squad.
After beginning his career with the Kings, White made the move south, where he spent the next four seasons (2015 through 2019) in the Illawarra. White had a career-high in minutes played and points per game in that stretch, becoming a valuable piece to the Hawks program and a fan favourite amongst Hawk Nation.
At times, the box score underplayed White's importance to his sides. A teammate in every sense of the word, Kev was the leader of the defensive scheme, willing to put his body on the line at every opportunity and lived and breathed the team first mentality.
White and his family returned to the region in early 2022, following stops in Adelaide and Perth.
Kevin will not be lost to the game and, in a coup for our local juniors, has recently begun a new role with the Illawarra Basketball Association.
In a season that has seen its fair share of misfortune and challenges, we say thanks for the leadership, guidance and support that Kevin has shown our young group.
Clubs are built of the strength and character of the men and women that call them home, and the Hawks have been lucky to call Kevin White one of our own.
The Hawks ownership, front office, and playing and coaching squad will formerly recognise Kevin's contribution to the club and the game at tonight's home game with the Breakers.
It's our chance to thank Kevin, his wife Rachael and his two biggest fans, Fletcher and Quinn, for all they have given the Hawks.
To a determined and dogged player, a respected and loyal teammate and a true club man, Thanks, Whitey.
Be in your seats pre-game of tonight's Hawks v Breakers match as we recognise Kevin with a presentation and a chance to hear from the man himself.
