Thank You Tim Coenraad
It’s no secret Tim Coenraad has more to give.
“I feel I can still play, that I have a lot to offer on the court. Under Flinny (former coach, Matt Flinn) I was a big part of the team plan, but a change of ownership, management and structure changed that for me,” the Hawk great said.
The six-foot-seven, South Queenslander saddened that his fantastic playing career has come to an end – but as is often the case in sport – father time waits for no man.
And while acknowledging the end of his playing career was initially a hard pill to swallow, Coenraad has already turned his competitive eye to a major off court challenge. The three-hundred gamer accepting a position as community engagement and player welfare officer with the Hawks.
“I have always been loyal to the community here, the Illawarra is home,” Coenraad said.
“My first season in 2009/10 was when Save the Hawks was launched and the Club became community owned. It really showed me how much the town loves this team. It also showed me that this is the one thing that doesn’t change. Owners may come and go, staff and players may come and go, but the community passion stays the same. I’m excited for the next chapter.”
Coenraad now given the opportunity to harness that passion as he shifts into the next phase of his basketball career.
“This community and my family are what has always motivated me to play hard and it’s what motivates me now as I begin the next chapter.”
Coenraad has already started his new role with the Hawks, building a community engagement program targeting Illawarra Primary Schools. The school visits provide basketball clinics and the delivery of the ‘Healthy Habits’ program, in partnership with Club Health and Member Partner, Peoplecare.
Coenraad is well-versed in the delivery of the holistic program which aims to teach children healthy habits and lifestyle choices through physical activity and nutrition.
So – as he embarks on his newest challenge – the Hawks organisation would like to extend its sincere thanks to a legend not only of the club, but of the NBL.
Across eleven seasons, Tim Coenraad has given his blood, sweat and tears to the Hawks and the wider Illawarra community, and for that, we will be eternally grateful as our new partnership continues into the future.
A MEMORABLE MOMENT - NEW YEARS EVE 2019
The Hawks take on the Sydney Kings at the WIN Entertainment Centre. The stakes are high, and state pride is on the line after a challenging season for the Hawks.
But this night is special.
Tim Coenraad, club stalwart and favourite son, is taking the court for his 300th game representing the Hawks. The only club he has played for in the NBL. A club who has faced its fair share of challenges since he arrived here as a fresh faced youngster in 2009.
The Hawks won the game that night, defeating the hotly favoured Kings, giving Coenraad his fairytale celebration of becoming only the third Hawk to play 300 games for the Club, in front of a rapturous crowd.
Hawks fans were delighted not only to beat the ‘boys up the road’, but to honour the effort and investment of the man from Brisbane who has made the Illawarra his home for the past decade.
